James Sunderland is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative Party MP‌ ‌for Bracknell‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019 ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 19,829.
The Bracknell constituency ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ Berkshire ‌and‌ ‌covers‌ the towns of Bracknell and Crowthorne close to the M4. A number of technology companies are based in the area. A long time safe Conservative seat, it was vacated by the former Conservative MP, Phillip Lee, who defected to the Liberal Democrats during the 2019 Parliament.
James Sunderland was previously a PPS at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born‌ ‌in 1970, James Sunderland was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at‌ the Royal Grammar Guildford and then at University of Birmingham.
After leaving university, Sunderland went to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served in the army for 27 years prior to his selection as a Parliamentary candidate in 2019.
Rising to the rank of Corporal, he was in command of 27 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps in Aldershot, overseeing some 800 soldiers. He is also served as Commander of the Army Engagement Group, responsible for high-level engagement with Ministers and MPs, on behalf of the Army Board.
Having undertaken tours in Iraq, Bosnia, Africa, and the Falklands, Sunderland is unsurprisingly a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Bosnia and Herzegovina, British Overseas Territories, and the Falkland Islands. He is Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on the Armed Forces Covenant, and Veterans.
Sunderland is married with two children, and enjoys cricket and football. He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Football Club Group.
