Dean Russell is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative P‌arty MP‌ ‌for the marginal constituency of Watford in Hertfordshire. First elected to Parliament in 2019, he retained the seat for the Conservatives with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 4,433 ‌over‌ ‌the‌ ‌Labour Party.‌ ‌
The constituency of Watford is a relatively compact seat found in the south west of Hertfordshire and almost solely concentrated on the town of Watford itself. This is an economically active area in which people commute to London, but where a number of companies such as JD Wetherspoon, Camelot, Total, and Taylor Woodrow have had notable offices.
Watford has historically been a tight marginal constituency that votes with the government of the day. It was held by Labour between 1974 and 1979, the Conservatives between 1979 and 1997, Labour between 1997 and 2010, and the Conservatives since 2010.
Russell was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy under Liz Truss in September 2022. He was not reappointed to the government when Rishi Suank became prime minister in October 2022.
Born in 1976, Russell was educated at De Montford University. He founded his own marketing and small business advisory firm, Epifny Consulting.
An author, he has written a sales and marketing book entitled, ‘How to Win: The Ultimate Profession Pitch Guide’.
Not restricting himself to writing on sales, Russell has also written and published four children’s books including, ‘Mouse and the Moon Made of Cheese’.
Russell previously served on St Albans District Council. He twice stood unsuccessfully for the Conservative Party in Luton in the 2015 and 2017 General Elections.
Russell is married with a daughter. He plays the guitar and has written and performed his own songs. In making his bid for the honour of being the most rounded artistic MP, he also says he enjoys painting. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.
He is the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Digital Health, Digital Identity, and the Film and Production Industry, and Vice Chair of the Groups on Brain Tumours, Mental Health, Tamils, and the National Food Strategy.
