Ruth Edwards is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ Rushcliffe, having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019 with a majority of 7,643.
Rushcliffe ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌within‌ ‌the‌ ‌county‌ ‌of‌ ‌Nottinghamshire and‌ ‌covers‌ West Bridgford, Cotgrave, Radcliffe on Trent and the area immediately below the city of Nottingham. Many of the local population work in Nottingham.  Previously represented in Parliament by the Conservative, Kenneth Clarke for almost fifty years, Rushcliffe has traditionally been a safe Conservative seat.  However the Conservative majority has though been declining here in recent years, including in 2019, bucking the national trend.
Edwards was appointed as a government whip in February 2023.
She was previously a PPS at the Scottish Office but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born‌ in 1984, Ruth Edwards studied theology at the London School of Theology and she later went on to complete a master’s degree in International Development and Security at the University of Bristol.
She‌ worked as a strategy consultant for Deloitte, as Head of Community and Public Policy at BT, and for the trade association, Tech UK. She is regarded as an expert on cyber security.
Before becoming an MP, she had previously also worked as a researcher for the Conservative MP, Crispin Blunt, and as a research fellow at the right leading think tank, Policy Exchange.
She is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Geographically Protected Foods,
Edwards is married and has spoken previously about how she keeps alpacas.
