James Daly is‌ ‌the‌ Conservative MP‌ ‌for‌ Bury North‌,‌ ‌having‌ gained the seat off the Labour Party in 2019 with a majority of just 105.
The Bury North constituency ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌in the north of‌ Greater Manchester. It ‌covers much of Bury itself and the nearby towns of Ramsbottom and Tottington. The area on the edge of the Pennines is popular with Manchester commuters, and contains the Peel monument to the former Conservative Prime Minister who was born here. A long time marginal swing seat, Bury North was held by the Conservatives between 2010 and 2017, before falling back to Labour for two years. Having won the seat back, Daly now has the most marginal Conservative seat in the UK and the second smallest majority in the House of Commons.
James Daly was previously a PPS at the Department for Work and Pensions but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Born in 1980, James Daly was educated at Edge Hill University and then the University of Leeds.  He worked as a legal aid solicitor, before being elected to Parliament
First elected to Bury Metropolitan Council in 2012, he has served as the Leader of the Conservative Group on Bury Council. He previously called for the council to purchase the financially struggling local football club, Bury FC.
Daly is Chair of the Conservative Friends of Kashmir. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Childcare and Early Education, Apprenticeships, the Armed Forces Covenant, Legal Aid, Legal and Constitutional Affairs.
He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Northern Culture, and Youth Unemployment.
