Amanda Solloway was elected as Conservative MP for Derby North in 2015 with a majority of just 41 votes. She was later defeated in the 2017 General Election, before regaining the seat in 2019 with a majority of 2,540.
Derby North is one of the UK’s most long standing marginal seats and regularly changes hands with the government of the day.  It is a mixed seat containing affluent suburbs and pockets of deprivation. The seat has a large student population as a result of being the home to Derby University.
Solloway was appointed a government whip in September 2022. In February 2023, she also became Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, in addition to her role as a Government Whip (Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury)
She has previously served in government as Under Secretary of State at the Home Office, and as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Equalities) at the Foreign Office.  She served as a government whip between 2021 and 2022, and as the Under Secretary of State for Science, Research and Innovation at the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy between 2020 and 2021.
Solloway worked as a retail manager for Sainsbury’s and then in Human Resources for Save the Children and Help the Aged before being elected to Parliament.
She later worked as head of training for Baird Clothing. She owns her own learning and development consultancy, Amanda Solloway Ltd.
She has lived in Derby for 20 years.
Solloway backed Remain in the 2016 EU referendum. She is a supporter of the HS2 rail link.
