‘A costly con’: Yvette Cooper reveals £700m Rwanda spend ‘to send just four volunteers’
In a statement to the House of Commons on Monday, Yvette Cooper said the last government planned to spend “over £10 billion” on the Rwanda deportation scheme.
The home secretary also revealed the previous government had spent £700 million on the illegal migration pact, which Labour has now scrapped.
Ministers did so, Cooper added, “in order to send just four volunteers [to Rwanda]” as she branded the scheme the “most shocking waste of taxpayer money I have ever seen”.
