Lib Dems call for improved Tube security
The Liberal Democrats in the London Assembly have produced a ten-point plan on how to improve security on London’s transport network in the wake of the bombings in the capital.
These included merging the British transport police in London with the Metropolitan police to improve coordination and communication, and investing the £55 million earmarked to expand the congestion charge westwards in improving security.
The Lib Dems also want permanent staffed police boxes at every mainline station during rush hour, a dedicated London emergency volunteer force to help the emergency services in case of attack and an annual anti-terrorism summit among mayors of cities around the world.
“Our emergency services have done a magnificent job but we must also urgently learn what additional steps we can practically take to respond to the terrorist threat and protect Londoners in the event of another atrocity,” said Lib Dem GLA leader Graham Tope.
