Scotland hopes for wind power success
Scotland’s most powerful windfarm – and the first given consent under devolved powers – opened today at Cairn Uish, Elgin.
It is hoped the new station will power the equivalent of 32,000 households near Moray.
Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson stressed the environmental benefits of the scheme, adding that Rothes windfarm also provided 50 jobs in the construction phase, saying: “This underlines one of our key messages – that renewables are good for the environment and our economy.
He added: “In the future, I hope we can exploit the power of the sea and the opportunities of biomass and hydrogen in the same way Rothes windfarm will capitalise on the power of the wind.”
