Reports that Laura Kuenssberg stepping down as BBC political editor

The Guardian reported last night that the BBC’s political editor Laura Kuenssberg is reportedly negotiating a deal to leave her role. They also reported that she is in talks to become a presenter on Radio 4’s Today programme.

Kuenssberg succeeded Nick Robinson as the BBC’s political editor in July 2015, becoming the first woman to hold the position.

Jon Sopel is also stepping down as North America editor, and it is speculated that current BBC Scotland editor and occasional Today presenter Sarah Smith could replace him in Washington.

Andrew Marr, has reportedly been issued a new contract to continue presenting his Sunday morning show, with The Guardian adding that sources had suggested this was partly down to his work on BBC programmes that will be broadcast upon the death of the Queen.
