A justice minister has quit following Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak being issued fines for breaches of Covid rules.
Conservative peer Lord David Wolfson blasted the “official response” to “repeated rule-breaking” in an official letter to the prime minister.
His departure marks the first since reports of lockdown-gatherings at Downing Street and Whitehall emerged earlier this year.
Barrister Lord Wolfson has served as a justice minister with responsibility for human rights and the constitution since December 2020.
He said the “scale, context and nature” of lockdown-breaking gatherings in government were out of step with the rule of law.
