Princes to meet former butler
Princes William and Harry have agreed to a private meeting with their mother’s former butler, Paul Burrell.
St James’s Palace confirmed the meeting would take place.
Mr Burrell is sticking to his guns over the Princess Diana revelations.
The defiant former servant is to press ahead with publishing his new book entitled, A Royal Duty, despite Princes William and Harry’ personal attack.
Princes William and Harry, in a joint statement, described Mr Burrell’s actions as a “cold and overt betrayal” of their mother.
The statement read: “We cannot believe that Paul, who was entrusted with so much, could abuse his position in such a cold and overt betrayal.
“It is not only deeply painful for the two of us but also for everyone else affected and it would mortify our mother if she were alive today.
“And, if we might say so, we feel we are more able to speak for our mother than Paul.”
The statement called on Mr Burrell to end the relentless expose of their mother’s private life.
A former aide to the Queen said Mr Burrell was a “runaway train” who would “dine out” on his meeting with the princes.
Part of the book has been serialised by the Daily Mirror. It is based on letters allegedly written or received by Diana.
In one letter, Mr Burrell claims Diana feared there was a plot afoot to kill her in a “car accident”, 10 months before she died in a Paris road tunnel.
