politics.co.uk poll confirms Brown bounce

Gordon Brown continues to enjoy a bounce in the polls following his attempt to tame the world economy, a politics.co.uk poll has revealed.

Asked if Mr Brown had done “a good job of handling the current economic crisis” 65 per cent of politics.co.uk users answered ‘yes’.

But that support does not necessarily extend to election success. Only 50 per cent of voters said Mr Brown’s handling of the crisis would affect the way they vote if a general election were called tomorrow.

Things do not look so good for the opposition parties.

Only 46 per cent of respondents said the Tories would do a better job than Mr Brown in handling the crisis.

But results for the Liberal Democrats are far worse, with 78 per cent of respondents saying the party would do a worse job of handling the crisis than the government.

The results show a sustained level of support for Mr Brown’s performance since the crisis began, despite continued havoc on the world markets.

The Tories have been struggling to find a coherent response to the collapse since events took centre-stage during the party conference in Birmingham.
