Tim Yeo has always insisted his active business interests in the energy sector have not affected his work as chair of the energy and climate change committee.

But now he has resigned the post after referring himself to the parliamentary standards commissioner over corruption allegations.

The Sunday Times secretly filmed him offering to connect an energy firm with government insiders. In the video he is seen distinguishing between his limited activities in public and the “different story” of his behind-closed-doors activities advancing the interests of those prepared to pay him money.

Politics.co.uk interviewed Yeo last week about his work as chair of the committee, a job he has now been forced to relinquish.
