Criminal evidence (witness anonymity) bill

Justice minister Jack Straw introduced this emergency legislation to the Commons on July 4th, with it scheduled to be rushed through the lower house on July 8th.
It addresses a ruling by law lords in June that defendants are entitled to know who is testifying against them, seemingly heralding the end to witnesses giving evidence anonymously.
Police have expressed concern over the move and the government is now seeking to change regulations around securing the anonymity of those giving witnesses in criminal proceedings.
