Defra: Surface water drainage
Thursday, 07 Feb 2008 00:00
Last summer's floods cost the UK around £3 billion, highlighting the importance of failing to prepare for extreme weather conditions.
Sir Michael Pitt's review of the lessons learned from the severe flooding urged improvements to the management of surface water, which is especially critical in built environments.
A consultation on the government's proposed Future Water strategy has been launched which addresses the issue. These include introducing management plans and clarifying responsibilities.
The consultation period ends on April 30th 2008.
