Crawley, Angela

Angela Crawley was elected as the Scottish National Party MP for Lanark & Hamilton East in 2015, and was reelected in 2019 with a majority of 5,187.

The Lanark and Hamilton east constituency is found in Scotland’s central belt and contains the towns of Hamilton, Lanark, Larkhall, Carluke, and Uddingstone. The seat is slightly more affluent than many in this part of Scotland, with incomes above the Scottish average. The SNP gained this seat from Labour in 2015, and it remains something of a 3 way marginal between the SNP, Labour and the Conservatives.  In the 2017 General Elections, all three parties polled just over 16,000 voters and were all within 350 votes of each other.

Angela Crawley is the SNP’s Shadow Attorney General at Westminster, having previously been the SNP spokesperson for Equalities, Women and Children between 2015 and 2020, and defence procurement in 2020.

Born in Hamilton in 1987, Crawley studied Politics at University of Stirling and then undertook a law degree at the University of Glasgow

Crawley first stepped into politics in 2012, when she was elected to South Lanarkshire Council for the Hamilton South ward.

She has formerly been the National Convenor of the SNP’s youth-wing, Young Scots for Independence, and also sat on the SNP’s National Executive Committee.

Crawley supports 50:50 representation at Westminster between men and women.  She was included in the Independent’s group photograph of 28 LGBT MPs and peers in 2016.

In late 2021, Angela Crawley MP introduced a Private Member’s bill to provide three days paid leave for women who suffer a miscarriage.

She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Unconscious Bias.
