Welcome
Alcohol Concern is the national agency on alcohol misuse. We work to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems and their families.
Founded in 1984, Alcohol Concern is governed by a Board of Trustees elected from its members. It is supported with funding from the UK Department of Health. It also receives income from charitable grants, consultancy and training fees, contracts and sales from its bookshop. Alcohol Concern also receives substantial and important income from membership fees.
Alcohol Concern is a Registered Charity (number 291705) and company limited by guarantee.
Our work
Alcohol Concern acts as the national umbrella body for 500 local agencies tackling alcohol-related harm and offering help to the families and friends of those with alcohol-related problems.
Our work covers the wide range of public policy issues on which alcohol misuse impacts including public health, housing, crime and licensing. We also support the development of policy and practice in specialist areas such as primary care, mental health and the alcohol treatment sector.
We play a key role in promoting and advising on the development of national level policy and in promoting public awareness of alcohol issues
