MRSA Action UK: Annual MRSA Day and Global MRSA Summit

Friday, 21 September 2012 9:04 AM

Our friend and colleague Jeanine Thomas from across the pond in Chicago, Illinois, has organised an MRSA Summit to open proceedings for World MRSA Day, which we recognise on 2nd October - the anniversary date of the discovery of MRSA here in the UK.

The fourth annual World MRSA Day Kickoff Event and Global MRSA Summit will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago, Illinois from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm (16:30pm - 18:00pm UK time) and will bring together healthcare professionals, MRSA survivors and bereaved families uniting to raise awareness to the global epidemic. The Summit is sponsored by Pfizer, Antimicrobial Copper and NBC5 Chicago.

The Keynote Speaker is Dr William R Jarvis, formerly of the Centres of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a leading MRSA expert and infectious disease specialist. Mr Rob Stafford, evening news anchor for NBC5 Chicago is the MC and Reverend Henry Soles, senior chaplain of the Chicago Bulls basketball team will lead in a prayer. MRSA survivors and families will share their personal stories. It is a time of healing for all. A balloon release for MRSA survivors and bereaved families will close the event along with a short seminar on "How to Become a MRSA Champion."

A broadcast by True Productions will air on NBC Chicago stations and viewed on MRSA Survivors Network YouTube Channel and website. Jeanine urges everyone to get involved. Now is the time for MRSA activists and healthcare professionals to plan for World MRSA Day and World MRSA Awareness Month.

Suggestions include holding an event at a local school, place of worship, community centre, local park, in your home or healthcare facility. Events will be held in US cities, worldwide and MRSA Action UK will be raising the profile of MRSA Awareness month at all of the events they are attending throughout October in the UK. Downloadable Posters, brochures and web banners are available at www.WorldMRSAday.org
