An SNP councillor caught on camera firing a Kalashnikov rifle in Pakistan has been suspended from the Scottish National party (SNP).

Jahangir Hanif, 46, survived efforts to expel him from the party, but will have to sit out a two-month suspension.

The investigation began after still images from the video were released to a newspaper.

There were no suggestions Mr Hanif had engaged in political or terrorist activity, but a party spokesman said there were concerns about his "foolish and inappropriate behaviour".

"I regret that this happened and apologise," Mr Hanif said.
