BNP benefits from stay-away Labour voters
The British National party (BNP) says Labour voters staying at home have helped its councillor gains reach double figures.

A BNP spokesman told politics.co.uk that national issues were playing into the party's hands, especially in Rotherham, where two seats were gained.

With the clock approaching 03:00 BST, the far-right party had 11 councillors, gaining seats in Pendle, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Amber Valley and Thurrock.

In Swansea, the Conservative party was outvoted by the BNP, the representative claimed.
