GCSE results

Teenagers across the country are recieving their GCSE results

This year's GCSE results have been released.

They show a 2.4 per cent rise in A* to C grades.

The pass rate rose to 98.4 per cent, with 20.7 per cent of students being awarded A or A* grades.

But fewer students entered the examination than at any time over the last five years.

There are signs of a widening in the gender gap, with girls performing considerably better than boys.

The number of students taking foreign languages is also in decline.
