Local elections 2008
The results of the 2008 local elections show the big winners are the Conservatives.

They are well past their 200-seat target and have gained a clutch of councils, while Labour ministers are admitting results are disappointing and a setback.

Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats have seen mixed results, with strong showings in some areas and losses in others.
