Local elections take place on May 1st
Elections are taking place in 152 councils across England and in Wales' 22 unitary councils on May 1st 2008.

In England the complex make-up of local government structure means not all councils are taking part, however.

Some are only electing half of their councillors while in others only a third of seats are up for grabs.
