The Liberal Democrat autumn conference 2007 takes place in the Brighton Centre in Brighton from September 15 to 20.

Menzies Campbell will once again be steering the party's most high-profile event of the year. The Liberal Democrat's leading spokespeople will deliver speeches on all the major topics affecting UK politics in 2007, while Lib Dem delegates will take place in the fringe events that help shape the party's agenda over the coming months.

Sir Menzies will also take part in a Q&A with Sandi Toksvig. The Lib Dem leader goes into conference season as the quiet man of UK politics, with Gordon Brown's inaugural programme and David Cameron's delicate grasp on his own party dominating the headlines. The Liberal Democrat's showing in the polls has dipped in recent months, overshadowed by the 'Brown bounce' and Mr Cameron's last-minute resurgence over law and order.

Campbell to offer alternative to 'cosy consensus'

Menzies Campbell will today attack the "cosy consensus" between Labour and the Conservatives.

Cameron and Brown offer no alternative to voters, claim Lib Dems.

Clegg 'probably' would fill leadership vacancy

Nick Clegg has said he would "probably" stand for leadership of the Liberal Democrats but has ruled out challenging Sir Menzies Campbell for the role.

Nick Clegg admits he would run for Lib Dem leader if a vacancy became available.

Ming: Liberal to the core and ready for election

It may not have the passion of "cut me I bleed red" but Ming Campbell today said if he was cut in half, "liberal" would run through his top half and "liberal democrat" through his bottom.

Dismal polls for Campbell

Public confidence in Menzies Campbell’s leadership appears to be at an all time low, despite the launch of Liberal Democrats conference in Brighton this weekend.

Mr Campbell scores poorly in this weekend's YouGov poll, as concern over the leader's age persists.
